The Rosario District is located in the Acobamba Province in the Huancavelica region in southwest central Peru . The district was established on November 24, 1955. It has an area of ​​95.7 km². At the 2017 census, 5,157 people lived in the district. In 1993 the population was 5205, in 2007 it was 6959. The district administration is located in the 3640  m high village of Rosario with 303 inhabitants (as of 2017). Rosario is 13.5 km north of the provincial capital Acobamba .

Geographical location

The Rosario District is located in the northeast of the Acobamba Province. The longitudinal extent in SW-NE direction is 13 km, the maximum width is 10 km. The district is located in the arid Andean highlands on the right bank of the Río Mantaro, which flows to the southeast .

The Rosario district is bordered on the southwest by the District Anta , the west by the district Paucará , in the northwest on the district Andabamba , the northeast and the east by the districts Anco and El Carmen (both in the province Churcampa ) and on the southeast by the district Acobamba .
