The Huamanguilla District is located in the Huanta Province in the Ayacucho Region in south-central Peru . The district was formed during the founding years of the Republic of Peru. It has an area of 77.3 km². The 2017 census counted 4,400 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 4908, in 2007 it was 5200. The district administration is located in the 3276 m high village of Huamanguilla with 1466 inhabitants (as of 2017). Huamanguilla is 11 km southeast of the provincial capital Huanta . In the district there are the archaeological sites Condormarca, Ccenchaccencha, Incapayarjan and Marayníyoc. Sirenachayoq waterfall is 2 km south of Huamanguilla.
Geographical location
The Huamanguilla district is located in the Andean highlands in the extreme south of the Huanta Province. The area is drained to the west and southwest to the Río Cachi and its tributary Río Yucay.
The district of Huamanguilla borders in the southeast and in the southwest on the districts of Quinua and Pacaycasa (both in the province of Huamanga ), in the northwest on the district Iguaín , in the extreme north on the district Huanta and in the northeast on the district Tambo ( province La Mar ).
