The Uchuraccay district is located in the Huanta province in the Ayacucho region in south-central Peru . The district was formed on July 10, 2014 from parts of the Huanta district. It has an area of ​​256 km². The 2017 census counted 3861 inhabitants. The seat of the district administration is the 3908  m high village Huaynacancha with 198 inhabitants (as of 2017). Huaynacancha is located 22 km northeast of the provincial capital Huanta .

Geographical location

The district of Uchuraccay is located in the Andean highlands in the southeast of the province of Huanta. The Río Piene , a tributary of the Río Apurímac , drains the northern part of the district to the northeast. The Río Torobamba , a tributary of the Río Pampas , drains the southern part of the district to the southeast.

The uchuraccay district is bordered on the southwest by the district of Huanta , on the west by the district Chaca , in the northwest on the district of Santillana , to the north by the district Sivia , on the east by the district Ayna ( province of La Mar ) and in the south by the district Tambo (also in the province of La Mar).
