The Llochegua district is located in the Huanta province in the Ayacucho region in south-central Peru . The district was formed on September 14, 2000 from parts of the Sivia district. It has an area of ​​269 km². The 2017 census counted 3938 inhabitants. The seat of the district administration is the 507  m high village of Llochegua with 1597 inhabitants (as of 2017). Llochegua is 70 km north-northeast of the provincial capital Huanta .

Geographical location

The Llochegua district is located in the Andean highlands in the northeast of the Huanta province. The district is bounded in the east by the Río Apurímac .

The Llochegua district borders on the Sivia district in the south, the Santillana and Ayahuanco districts in the west, the Pucacolpa district in the extreme northwest, the Cayarani district in the north and the Pichari district ( La Convención province ) in the east .
