The Gmina Ruciane-Nida [ ruˈt͡ɕanɛ ˈɲida ] is an urban-and-rural municipality in the powiat Piski of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship in Poland . Its seat is the city of the same name ( German Rudczanny and Nieden ) with about 4450 inhabitants.
geography
The municipality is located in the south of the voivodeship. The tri-border area with the Masovian and Podlaskie Voivodeships is six kilometers to the south. The district town of Pisz (Johannisburg) is five kilometers to the east. Neighboring communities are in the powiat Mrągowski Piecki in the north-west and Mikołajki in the north; in the powiat Piski the town-and-rural community Pisz in the east and south and in the powiat Szczycieński Rozogi in the southwest and Świętajno in the west.
The community has an area of 357.7 km², of which 12 percent is used for agriculture and 71 percent for forestry. The landscape belongs to the Masurian Lake District and the Puszczta Piska (Johannisburger Heide) . The north of the area belongs to Mazurski Park Krajobrazowy (Masurian Landscape Park) . The northeast border of the municipality is formed by the Śniardwy (Spirdingsee) - with 114 km² the largest lake in the country. Other lakes are Nidzkie (Lower Lake ) , Bełdany ( Beldahn Lake) , Guzianka Mała (Small Guschien Lake) and Guzianka Wielka (Large Guschien Lake) . The 99 kilometer long Krutynia (Kruttinna) is one of the most famous and beautiful hiking trails for paddlers.
history
With the merger of the villages of Nida and Ruciane , Ruciane-Nida received city rights on January 1, 1966 . The rural community was newly formed in 1973 from various gromadas , until 1954 the Gmina Ukta existed with its seat in Ukta . Urban and rural communities were merged to form urban and rural communities in 1990/1991. Their area belonged to the Olsztyn Voivodeship from 1946 to 1975 and then to the Suwałki Voivodeship until 1998 , the powiat was dissolved in 1975. On January 1, 1999, the municipality came to the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship and again to the Powiat Piski.

The city of Ruciane-Nida is no longer divided into the two former villages of Nida (Nieden) and Ruciane ( Rudczanny , 1938–1945 Niedersee ), but into three residential areas ( Osiedle ).

tourism
The lakes and the Krutynia offer many opportunities for water sports . This includes sailing and canoeing . Individual lakes are connected by waterways and can also be navigated with houseboats .
traffic
The most important road is the national road DK58 from Olsztynek (Hohenstein) to Szczuczyn in the Podlaskie Voivodeship . The voivodeship road DW610 leads from Piecki (Whip Village ) to Ruciane-Nida, the DW609 from Mikołajki (Nikolaiken) to Ukta (Old Ukta) .
The railway stations Karwica Mazurska (Kurwien) , Ruciane-Nida (Rudczanny) , Ruciane-Nida Zachód (Nieden) and Szeroki Bór (Breitenheide) exist on the Olsztyn – Ełk (Allenstein – Lyck) railway line .
The nearest international airports are Gdansk and Warsaw .
