Ruczaj [ ˈrut͡ʂai̯ ] is a small town in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship . He belongs to the Gmina Ruciane-Nida ( urban and rural community Rzdczanny / Niedersee - Nieden ) in the Powiat Piski ( Johannisburg district ).

The hamlet ( Polish Osada ) Ruczaj is located on the river Ruczaj of the same name , which flows into the Lower Lake (Polish Jezioro Nidzkie ) a few kilometers later at Karwica ( German  Kurwien ) . It is 24 kilometers to the northeast to the district town of Pisz (Johannisburg) .

Nothing is known about the foundation and history of the settlement belonging to the local area of ​​Karwica, nor about any German name from the period before 1945. Ruczaj is a village in the urban and rural community of Ruciane-Nida in the Powiat Piski , since 1999 to Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship , previously part of Suwałki Voivodeship .

On the Protestant side, Ruczaj is part of the parish of Pisz in the Masuria diocese of the Evangelical-Augsburg Church in Poland ; on the Catholic side, it belongs to the church in Karwica in the diocese of Ełk of the Polish Catholic Church .

Ruczaj is on a side road that connects the national road 59 with Karwica . There is a rail connection via the Karwica Mazurska station on the Olsztyn – Ełk ( German  Allenstein – Lyck ) line.
