Krzyże [ ˈkʂɨʐɛ ] ( German  Kreuzofen ) is a village in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship . It belongs to the Gmina Ruciane-Nida ( urban and rural community Rudczanny / Niedersee - Nieden ) in the Powiat Piski ( Johannisburg district ).

Geographical location

Krzyże is located on the west bank of the Lower Lake ( Jezioro Nidzkie in Polish ) in the southeast of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, 19 kilometers southwest of the district town of Pisz ( German Johannisburg ). From Ruciane-Nida , however, a side road leads via Pranie (Seehorst) to Karwica (Kurwien) . It runs through Krzyże.

history

Cross oven - 1785 Krzysy after 1785 Creutz furnace to 1,900 Kreutz oven called and written - was founded in 1706 as a Schatullsiedlung. In distinction to the nearby - from 1874 to 1945 the village was forester Cross oven, which opened in 1908 Hirschhagen was renamed and later Polish "Piecek" was, but today no longer exists - in the District Kurwien ( Polish Karwica ) integrated, the for loop Johannisburg in the Gumbinnen district (from 1905: Allenstein district ) in the Prussian province of East Prussia .

468 inhabitants were registered in Kreuzofen in 1910. Their number was 465 in 1933 and 480 in 1939.

Due to the provisions of the Versailles Treaty , the population in the Allenstein voting area , to which Kreuzofen belonged, voted on July 11, 1920 on whether it would continue to belong to East Prussia (and thus Germany) or join Poland. In Kreuzofen, 280 residents voted to remain with East Prussia, Poland did not receive any votes.

In war-induced cross furnace in 1945 came with the entire southern East Prussia to Poland and received the Polish form of the name "Krzyże". Today the village is the seat of a Schulzenamt ( Polish Sołectwo ) and thus a place within the urban and rural community Ruciane-Nida (Rudczanny / Niedersee - Nieden) in the Powiat Piski ( Johannisburg district ), until 1998 the Suwałki Voivodeship , since then the Warmia Voivodeship Assigned to Masuria . In 2011 Krzyże had 110 inhabitants.

Before 1945 Kreuzofen was parish in the Evangelical Church of Kurwien ( Polish : Karwica ) in the church province of East Prussia of the Church of the Old Prussian Union and in the Roman Catholic Church of Johannisburg (in Polish: Pisz ) in the Diocese of Warmia .

Today the Protestant residents belong to the parish in Pisz in the Masuria diocese of the Evangelical-Augsburg Church in Poland . The Catholic population adheres to the parish Trójcy Świętej Ruciane-Nida in the Nida district , which Krzyże looks after as a subsidiary parish . It belongs to the diocese of Ełk of the Polish Catholic Church .
