Glebast

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A glebast is an old name for a non-noble manor owner, which is attested as far back as 1824. The word probably comes from a Slavic language, possibly from the Polabischen , and with Latin gleba , Polish gleba and Russian glyba related what each clod means.

In the Principality of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel there was a Glebastenamt Bornum , and the term is also known by manor owners in Verden .
