Raymond Willem Knops (born November 10, 1971 in Hegelsom ) is a Dutch politician of the Christian Democratisch Appèl (CDA). Since October 2017 he has been State Secretary for Home Affairs and Kingdom Relations in the Rutte III cabinet . From November 1, 2019 to April 14, 2020, he replaced Kajsa Ollongren as Minister of the Interior and Kingdom Relations .

career

Knops trained at the Royal Military Academy in Breda and then studied administration at the Erasmus University Rotterdam . From 1995 to 2000 he held various officer positions in the Royal Air Force .

From 1999 to 2005 he was head of department and deputy mayor of the Horst municipality (since 2001: Horst aan de Maas). From October 2004 to February 2005 Knops was stationed in Iraq as an advisor on the military staff of the Dutch battlegroup commander of the Iraq stabilization force SFIR-5 . From 2005, Knops sat with a few brief interruptions in the Second Chamber of the States General , among other things as a member of the Presidium and the Foreign Committee, the Finance, Europe, Defense, Economic and Home Affairs Committee. On October 26, 2017, he was appointed State Secretary for Home Affairs and Kingdom Relations in the third Rutte cabinet.

Private

Knops lives in Hegelsom, is married and has two children.
