For a long time the police and general security were important functions of the ministry. In 2010 the Rutte I cabinet changed a few things. These tasks were transferred to the new ministerie van Veiligheid en Justitie (Security and Justice). At the same time the ministerie van VROM (Housing, Spatial Planning and Environment) was dissolved. The directoraat-generaal Wonen, Wijken en Integratie and the Rijksgebouwendienst from VROM were added to the BZK Ministry. However, asylum issues went to the Ministry of Security and Justice.
