Ministerie van Volkshuisvesting, Ruimtelijke Ordening en Milieubeheer
The Ministerie van Volkshuisvesting, Ruimtelijke Ordening en Milieubeheer (VROM) ( German Ministry for Housing , Spatial Planning and Environmental Protection ) was the Dutch Ministry for the Environment , Planning and Housing . In 2010 it was merged with the Ministry of Transport and Water Management, Ministerie van Verkeer en Waterstaat, to form the Ministry of Infrastructure, Ministerie van Infrastructuur en Milieu (IenM).
The activities included u. a. the preparation of guidelines and framework planning for the Dutch government. On the basis of these guidelines, laws and ordinances were passed in cooperation with the provinces , municipalities , social organizations and companies .

The ministry did not come into being under this name until 1982. At that time, the area of environmental protection was assigned to the areas of housing and spatial planning. The ministry's history dates back to 1901 when two important laws were passed, the Health Act and the Housing Act. The Ministry of Social Affairs and the Ministry of the Interior ensured that these laws were implemented for decades.
The Ministerie van Openbare Werken ( Ministry of Public Works ) was founded as an independent institution in 1945 . In the same year it was given the suffix en Wederopbouw (and reconstruction), from 1947 it was called after the separation of the existentially important water authority Waterstaat , Ministerie van Wederopbouw en Volkshuisvesting (reconstruction and housing construction). The main task in the immediate post-war period was to combat the housing shortage . The ministry took a highly centralized planning approach. In 1956 the Ministry was renamed Volkshuisvesting en Bouwnijverheid (Housing and Construction).
It was not until the 1960s that spatial planning became established as the second important task of the Ministry of Construction alongside the production of living space. In 1965 it was given the name Volkshuisvesting en Ruimtelijke Ordening (VRO), which was valid until 1982 .
The land registry was part of the ministry from 1973 to 1994. The property management of the state buildings has always been another task of the ministry.
Since 1992, the Ministry had its headquarters in a building next to the central station of The Hague (Rijnstraat 8), near the high-rise Hoftoren . In 2006, VROM had around 3,700 employees.
Since the end of 2010, VROM has been part of the Ministry of Infrastructure en Milieu , but continues to work independently with the VROM project and the VROM Inspectie . Housing construction has been (again) located in the Ministry of the Interior since then.
