The Ministerie van Landbouw, Natuur en Voedselkwaliteit (LNV, dt. 'Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality') is a Dutch ministry in The Hague from 1935 to 2010 and since 2017 .

Areas of responsibility

The ministry was responsible for four policy areas:

history

The Ministry had existed since 1935 as an independent government organization, at that time under the name Ministerie van Landbouw en Visserij , Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries. Before 1935, agriculture and fisheries policy was part of other ministries, first with the Ministry of the Interior and later with the then Ministry of Transport, Trade and Industry . After World War II , the LNV authority expanded rapidly as a result of the increasing number of tasks, including food rationing and agricultural rebuilding.

In 1982, the Lubbers I cabinet decided that the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries should transfer responsibility for the policy areas of nature conservation and outdoor leisure from the Ministry of Culture, Recreation and Social Welfare ( Ministerie van Cultuur, Recreatie en Maatschappelijk Werk ). The name of the ministry was then changed to Ministry of Agriculture, Nature Conservation and Fisheries.

On July 1, 2003, the name was changed to Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality. The adjustment had become necessary because the food and goods supervision ( Voedsel en Waren Autoriteit ) came under the supervision of the LNV.

On October 14, 2010, when the Rutte I Cabinet was formed, the Ministry was merged with the Ministry of Economic Affairs to form the Ministry of Economy, Agriculture and Innovation .

When the Rutte III cabinet was formed on October 26, 2017, the ministry was re-established. It has about 1000 employees.
