Carola Schouten

Cornelia Johanna "Carola" Schouten (born October 6, 1977 in 's-Hertogenbosch ) is a Dutch politician of the Christian Union . Since October 2017 she has been Minister for Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality and Deputy Prime Minister in the Rutte III cabinet .

Life

She grew up in Giessen in the province of North Brabant and attended Altena College in Sleeuwijk from 1989 to 1995 . She studied business administration at the Erasmus University Rotterdam and at the same time began her political career in 2000 at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor, among other things as a consultant for work and income. At the end of 2006, Schouten became an advisor to the Christian Union parliamentary group in the Second Chamber . She worked as a policy coordinator and was responsible for finance and social affairs.

On May 18, 2011, she became a member of the Second Chamber of the Christians. As a member of the ChristenUnie parliamentary group, she was responsible for business and finance, social affairs, employment and pensions, universities and housing, among other things.

On October 26, 2017, Schouten was appointed Minister for Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality and Deputy Prime Minister in the third Rutte cabinet.

Private

Schouten is single and has a son. She lives in Rotterdam and is a member of the Reformed Churches in the Netherlands (exempt) .
