Alexander M. Kolloden

Alexander M. Kolloden (civil: Alexander Konstantin von Mitschke-Kollande, born September 2, 1847 in Pomiany in the Kempen district of Posen ; died November 25, 1924 in Krems an der Donau ) was a German-speaking writer. He celebrated his greatest success with the libretto for the folk opera Der Dusle und das Babeli 1902, inspired by a song from Des Knaben Wunderhorn .

Life

He was born as the son of a landowner in East Prussia , with some probability as the son of Alexander Mitschke-Collande from Pomiany. In 1866 he was an officer and fought at Trutnov , Königinhof and Königgrätz . Then he studied German in Breslau . In 1886 he moved to Austria and Vienna , where Ludwig Ganghofer introduced him to society. At times he worked as a journalist for the Vienna daily Illustrirtes Wiener Extrablatt . He is often confused with his writing partner Louis Taufstein , to whom his name was ascribed as a pseudonym for a long time. Joint publications appeared partly under the pseudonym "Alexander Ludwig", which was composed of the two first names. He was married on March 18, 1907, to the operetta singer Hermine Tischner (born June 21, 1878 as "Hermina" in Vienna), who left the Catholic Church to get married. Under her married name Hermine von Kolloden she wrote theater reviews.

Inzersdorf and Stein an der Donau can be identified as other places of residence . In the latter place he lived in modest circumstances until his death.

Individual evidence

  1. An obituary mentions his real name as "Mitschke-Kolloden" from "Kamiani". There is no evidence of such a place, but an "Alexander Mitschke-Kollande, landowner from Pomiani" can. "K" and "P" can hardly be distinguished in the Fraktur handwriting that was common at the time, so that confusion is obvious here. These considerations form the basis of the assumption made here.
