The district of El Porvenir is located in the province of Chincheros in the Apurímac region in central Peru . The district was formed on December 20, 2015 from parts of the Ongoy district. It has an area of ​​59.9 km². The 2017 census counted 1802 inhabitants. The district administration is located in the village of San Pedro de Huamburque with 558 inhabitants (as of 2017) at an altitude of about 3174  m . San Pedro de Huamburque is located about 20 km northeast of the provincial capital Chincheros . In addition to San Pedro de Huamburque, there is also the village of El Porvenir with 682 inhabitants.

Geographical location

The El Porvenir district is located in the Andean highlands in the northeast of the Chincheros province. The lower reaches of the Río Pampas flows southeast along the northern district boundary .

The El Porvenir district borders in the west on the district Ongoy, in the extreme northwest on the district Huaccana , in the north on the district Chungui and in the extreme northeast on the district Oronccoy (both in the province La Mar ), in the southeast on the district Ocobamba as well in the south to the Rocchacc district .
