The Huaccana district is located in the Chincheros province in the Apurímac region in central Peru . The district was established on June 12, 1985. On June 14, 2016, the western part of the district was separated and has since formed the newly established Los Chankas district .

The district area is 335 km². The 2017 census counted 6,979 inhabitants. The district administration is located in the village of Huaccana at an altitude of about 3075  m with 1256 inhabitants (as of 2017). Huaccana is located about 15 km north-northeast of the provincial capital Chincheros .

Geographical location

The district of Huaccana is located in the Andean highlands in the northwest of the province of Chincheros. The Río Pampas flows around the district in the west and north.

The district of Huaccana borders in the west on the districts of Concepción ( province of Vilcas Huamán ), Los Chankas, Luis Carranza and Chilcas (the last two in the province of La Mar ), in the north on the districts of Anco and Chungui (both in the province of La Mar) and in the southeast to the districts of Ongoy and Chincheros .
