The Oronccoy District is located in the La Mar Province in the Ayacucho region in south-central Peru . The district was formed on June 14, 2016 from parts of the Chungui district. It has an area of ​​554 km². The 2017 census counted 1127 inhabitants. The seat of the district administration is the 3731  m high village Oronccoy with 189 inhabitants (as of 2017). Oronccoy is 72 km southeast of the provincial capital San Miguel .

Geographical location

The district of Oronccoy is located in the Peruvian Central Cordillera in the extreme southeast of the province of La Mar. The district is bounded in the south and in the southeast by the Río Pampas, which flows east, and in the northeast by the Río Apurímac , which flows north .

The Oronccoy district borders on the Chungui district to the west and northwest, the Vilcabamba and Inkawasi districts to the northeast (both in the La Convención province ), and the Pacobamba , Kaquiabamba and Andarapa districts (all three in the Andahuaylas province ) in the east and south as well as in the western south to the districts of Ocobamba and El Porvenir (both in the province of Chincheros ).
