The Samugari District is located in the La Mar Province in the Ayacucho region in south-central Peru . The district was formed on July 16, 2010 from parts of the San Miguel District . It has an area of ​​380 km². The 2017 census counted 10,459 residents. The seat of the district administration is the small town of Palmapampa at an altitude of 810  m with 3893 inhabitants (as of 2017). Palmpampa is located 45 km northeast of the provincial capital San Miguel .

Geographical location

The Samugari district is located in the Peruvian Central Cordillera in the northeast of the La Mar province. The district is bounded in the northeast by the Río Apurímac , which flows northwards .

The Samugari district is bordered to the south-east and the south by the district Anchihuay , in the southwest of the district of San Miguel , on the west by the district Tambo , on the north by the district of Santa Rosa and in the northeast on the district Kimbiri ( province of La Convención ).
