The Huayana district is located in the Andahuaylas province in the Apurímac region in the central south of Peru . The district was established on October 30, 1984. It has an area of ​​95.3 km². The 2017 census counted 793 residents. In 1993 the population was 978, in 2007 it was 961. The district administration is located in the 3150  m high village of Huayana with 502 inhabitants (as of 2017). Huayana is located 50 km south-southwest of the provincial capital Andahuaylas .

Geographical location

The Huayana district is located in the Andean highlands in the southwest of the Andahuaylas province. The Río Chicha (also Río Soras) flows north along the western district boundary.

The district of Huayana is bordered to the west by the districts of Santiago de Paucaray and Paico (both in the province of Sucre ), to the northwest by the district of San Miguel de Chaccrampa , to the northeast and east by the district of Tumay Huaraca and to the southwest by the district of Pomacocha .
