The Turpo district is located in the Andahuaylas province in the Apurímac region in the central south of Peru . The district was established on December 11, 1942. It has an area of ​​124 km². The 2017 census counted 3815 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 4430, in 2007 4066. The district administration is located in the 3297  m high village of Turpo with 675 inhabitants (as of 2017). Turpo is just 17 km southwest of the provincial capital Andahuaylas .

Geographical location

The Turpo district is located in the Andean highlands in the center of the Andahuaylas province. The area is drained from the Río Huancaray to the west.

The Turpo district is bordered to the west by the district Huancaray , on the north by the district Talavera , on the east by the district Andahuaylas and the south by the district Tumay Huaraca .
