The Tamburco district is located in the Abancay province in the Apurímac region in central Peru . The district was established on December 31, 1941. It has an area of ​​54.6 km². At the 2017 census, there were 11,204 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 4970, in 2007 it was 7353. The district administration is located in the small town of Tamburco at an altitude of about 2581  m with 9359 inhabitants (as of 2017), a northeast suburb of the provincial and regional capital Abancay , 2 km from the city center.

Geographical location

The Tamburco district is in the north of the Abancay province. The district is located in the Andean highlands north of the city of Abancay. In the extreme northwest, the district extends to the summit of the 5235  m high mountain Nevado Ampay .

The Tamburco district is bordered to the southeast and the southwest by the district Abancay , in the northwest on the district Huanipaca and in the northeast to the districts of San Pedro de Cachora and Curahuasi .
