The Huepetuhe District is located in the Manu Province in the Madre de Dios region in southeastern Peru . The district was formed on June 2, 2000 from parts of the Madre de Dios district. It extends over an area of 1523 km². The 2017 census counted 10,069 residents. In 2007 the population was 6978. The district administration is located in the 400 m high town of Huaypetue with 6317 inhabitants (as of 2017). Huaypetue is located about 90 km east-southeast of the provincial capital Salvación .
Geographical location
The Huepetuhe district is located in the Amazon lowlands in the southeast of the Manu province on the northern edge of the Cordillera Carabaya . The Río Inambari flows north along the eastern district boundary .
The Huepetuhe district is bordered by the Camanti district ( Quispicanchi province ) to the south, the Madre de Dios district to the west and north, the Inambari district ( Tambopata province ) to the east and the Ayapata district ( Carabaya province ) to the south-east .
