Hans Wachtler

Hans Paul Wachtler (born February 12, 1872 in Berlin , † after 1960 ) was a German high school teacher and classical philologist .

Life

Hans Wachtler attended the Kölln High School in Berlin until he graduated from high school in 1890 and then studied history, classical philology and German at the University of Berlin . At times he was also an assistant to Ernst Curtius (1814–1896). On July 8, 1896 he received his doctorate, in July 1897 he passed the examination for high school teachers. He then completed his seminar year at the Wilhelms-Gymnasium in Berlin until 1898 . Initially assistant teacher at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Gymnasium in Berlin, he was transferred to the Knight's Academy in Brandenburg an der Havel in 1899. There he was employed on April 1, 1900 as a senior teacher. In the winter of 1905/06 he traveled to Greece, Asia Minor and Egypt on a travel grant from the German Archaeological Institute for grammar school teachers and took up a new position at the Steglitz grammar school at Easter 1906 . In 1910 he received the title of professor. He retired on April 1, 1934. He later lived in Bad Homburg vor der Höhe .

He was a corresponding member of the German Archaeological Institute and the Archaeological Society of Berlin .
