The Tahuamanu Province is located in the Madre de Dios region in southeastern Peru . The province has an area of ​​21,197 km². At the 2017 census, 11,047 people lived in the province. Ten years earlier the population was 10,742. The administrative seat is the municipality of Iñapari . In the west of the province is the Alto Purús National Park .

Geographical location

The province of Tahuamanu is located in the north of the Madre de Dios region in the Amazon lowlands . It has a longitudinal extent in WNW-ESE direction of about 360 km. The Río Tahuamanu , left headwaters of the Río Orthon , flows through the province in an easterly direction. The Río Acre runs along the northeast border, the Río de Las Piedras along the southwest border. The provincial capital of Iñapari, located on the Río Acre, is at the border triangle Peru-Bolivia-Brazil.

The province of Tahuamanu borders on Brazil in the northeast, Bolivia in the east, the Tambopata province in the south and the Ucayali region in the northwest .

Administrative division

Tahuamanu Province is divided into three districts. The district of Iñapari is the seat of the provincial administration.
