The Tahuamanu District is located in the Tahuamanu Province in the Madre de Dios region in southeastern Peru . The district was established on December 26, 1912. It extends over an area of 3479 km². The 2017 census counted 3384 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 1744, in 2007 it was 2739. The district administration is located in the 320 m high village of San Lorenzo with 456 inhabitants (as of 2017). San Lorenzo is located 63 km south-southeast of the provincial capital Iñapari on the Río Tahuamanu .
Geographical location
The Tahuamanu District is located in the Amazon lowlands in the southeast of the Tahuamanu Province. It is bounded in the south by the Río Manuripe . The Río Tahuamanu crosses the north of the district in an easterly direction, the Río Muymanu the south.
The district of Tahuamanu borders in the northwest with the districts Iñapari and Iberia , in the east with Bolivia and in the south with the district Las Piedras ( province Tambopata ).
