The Las Piedras district is located in the Tambopata province in the Madre de Dios region in southeastern Peru . The district was established on December 26, 1912. It extends over an area of ​​7753 km². The 2017 census counted 14,883 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 4514, in 2007 it was 5491. The district administration is located in the 260  m high village of Las Piedras (Planchón) with 1607 inhabitants (as of 2017). Las Piedras is located 35 km northeast of the provincial capital Puerto Maldonado .

Geographical location

The Las Piedras district is located in the north of the Tambopata province. The Río Las Piedras forms the southern district boundary, below the mouth of the Río Madre de Dios . The Río Huascar crosses the district in a south-easterly direction. The Río Manuripe runs along the northern district boundary .

The Las Piedras district is bordered on the southwest by the district Tambopata , on the north by the districts Iñapari and Tahuamanu (both in the province Tahuamanu ), on the east by Brazil and to the south and the southwest by the district Tambopata.
