Lucjan André

Lucjan André (born October 10, 1893 in Grodzisk Mazowiecki , † June 27, 1958 in Katowice ) was a Polish writer and literary and theater critic .

Life

André attended a private school in Warsaw , where he graduated from high school in 1912 . He made his debut as a poet in 1923 with the volume LVI . He also began studying philosophy in 1923 at the University of Warsaw , where he obtained his master's degree in 1928 . In addition to his studies, he continued to work in literature and in 1925 became a member of the Professional Association of Polish Writers . He published his theater reviews and articles from 1925 to 1926 in Echo Warszawy , from 1926 to 1927 in Gazeta Warszawska Poranna , from 1927 to 1928 in Przegląd Wieczorny and Kurier Poranny, and from 1929 to 1931 in Echo Tygodnia . Then he concentrated on his literary work and his scientific work. With the work O bezdziejowości w poezji. Rzecz o Adamie Asnyku ( doctoral supervisor : Tadeusz Kotarbiński ) he received his doctorate in 1933 at the University of Warsaw.

During the German occupation he lived in Warsaw and worked as a road worker. After the Warsaw Uprising was suppressed , he was deported to Częstochowa . After the Second World War he took over the management of the city ​​library in Częstochowa in 1945 . He also worked with the local newspaper Głos Narodu , where he was editor-in-chief of the Przemiany supplement from 1945 to 1947 . Shortly afterwards he moved to Katowice and worked as a technical translator of Soviet specialist texts.

André died in Katowice on June 27, 1958.
