Andwuelle Wright has competed in long jump since 2012. That year he was U18 champion in his home country. In June he jumped over seven meters for the first time and won the U18 Central America and Caribbean Games in El Salvador. In 2013 he won the CARIFTA Games in the Bahamas for the first time . In July of the same year he took part in the U18 World Championships in Donetsk. In the qualification, however, he stayed under seven meters and was eliminated as eighth in his group. Overall, he finished 21st out of a total of 25 places. In 2014 it was able to increase to a width of 7.42 m. In July he was able to successfully defend his title at the U18 Central America and Caribbean Games in Mexico. A month later, he competed in the Second Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing. He missed the entry into the final, but was able to emerge as the winner of the B final, which he was ninth overall. In 2015, he entered the U20 Pan American Championships in Edmonton, Canada in July , where he finished fifth with 7.51 m.
After Wright completely missed the 2016 season, he wasn't able to find his way back to his old strength until 2018. In his first competition in February, he jumped the eight-meter mark for the first time, even though the tailwind was too strong. Only one month later he was able to confirm the distance with 8.03 m, this time with a regular tail wind. In June he even climbed to 8.23 m at the national championships and thus set, in addition to the gold medal, a new national record that his coach, Wendell Williams, had previously held with 8.14 m. In July he took part in the Central American and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla. There he stayed just under eight meters in the final, but was still able to win the bronze medal. Just a few weeks later, he also started at the North American Championships in Toronto. He achieved almost the same distance as before in Colombia, with which he was fifth. In July 2019 he was able to improve his national record by two centimeters to 8.25 m. He succeeded in the final of the U23 North American Championships in Mexico, with which he set up a new championship record in addition to the gold medal. He then started at the Pan American Games in Lima, where he finished seventh. His preliminary performances in the season also earned him participation in the World Championships in Doha. There he only came to 7.76 m in qualifying and was eliminated. Overall, he finished 17th in his first World Cup participation.
Wright has already qualified for the 2020 Summer Olympics , which have been postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic . In 2019 he spent a winter training camp at the Hellersdorf Athletics Club , to which Wright's coach Williams has good connections.
