The GM Dannevig is a Norwegian research ship owned by the Havforskningsinstituttet.

history

The ship was built under construction number 40 at the Kystvågen Slip og Båtbyggeri shipyard for the Fiskeriteknologisk Forskningsinstitutt. The launch took place in February 1979. The completion of the ship took place in August 1979. The ship started as Kystfangst . In 1985 the ship came to the Havforskningsinstituttet and was renamed GM Dannevig after the founder of the Flødevigen research station and pioneer of aquaculture Gunder Mathiesen Dannevig (1841-1911) .

1986-87 the ship was rebuilt and lengthened by about eight meters.

commitment

The ship is based at the research station of the Havforskningsinstituttet in Flødevigen. In the field of fisheries and environmental research, it is primarily used along the Norwegian coast in the south of Norway between Kristiansand and Halden , but also in other areas of the Skagerrak and in the Kattegat and the North Sea . The crew of the ship consists of three people.

Technical data and equipment

The ship is powered by two Volvo Penta - Diesel engines (type: D12-MH), each with 250  kW power driven. The motors act on a controllable pitch propeller via a gearbox . Two diesel generators are available to generate electricity.

With the rebuilding of the ship in the 1980s, the laboratory capacity was expanded. Since then, three laboratories have been available. The open working deck in the aft area is 43 m².

The range of the ship is around 1150  nautical miles . It can stay at sea for up to six days.

One single cabin and seven double cabins are available on board for the crew and scientists.
