The Andahuaylillas district is located in the Quispicanchi province of the Cusco region in south-central Peru . The district was founded on January 2, 1857. It has an area of 84.6 km². At the 2017 census there were 5,797 inhabitants in the district. In 1993 the population was 4343, in 2007 it was 4940. The district administration is located in the small town of Andahuaylillas with 2857 inhabitants (as of 2017). Andahuaylillas is located about 36 km east-southeast of the regional capital Cusco .
Geographical location
The Andahuaylillas district is located in the Andes in the west of the Quispicanchi province. The small town of Andahuaylillas, situated 3121 m above sea level, is located on the left bank of the Río Vilcanota (upper reaches of the Río Urubamba), which crosses the northern part of the district in a northwestern direction. In the west of the district are the archaeological sites Pikillaqta and Rumicolca (Rumi Qullqa).
The Andahuaylillas district is bordered to the west by the district Lucre , on the north by the district Caicay ( Province Paucartambo ), to the east by the District Urcos , in the southeast of the district Huaro and on the southwest by the district Rondocan ( province Acomayo ).
