The Quiquijana district is located in the Quispicanchi province of the Cusco region in south-central Peru . The district was established on June 21, 1825. It has an area of 364 km². At the 2017 census, there were 11,556 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 9,836, in 2007 10,340. The district administration is located in the small town of Quiquijana, 3210 m high, with 2581 inhabitants (as of 2017). Quiquijana is located on the east bank of the Río Vilcanota (upper reaches of the Río Urubamba) 17 km south-southeast of the provincial capital Urcos . The highway from Puno to Cusco runs through the city.
Geographical location
The Quiquijana District is located in the southwest of the Quispicanchi Province. The Río Vilcanota crosses the district in a north-westerly direction.
The district of Quiquijana borders in the southwest with the districts Sangarará and Acomayo (both in the province Acomayo ), in the northwest with the district Huaro , in the north with the districts Urcos and Ccatca , in the northeast with the district Ocongate and in the south with the district Cusipata .
