The district of San Jerónimo is located in the province of Cusco in the Cusco region in south-central Peru . The district has an area of ​​98.1 km². The 2017 census counted 61,139 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 15,166, in 2007 31,687. With the exception of a few smaller settlements, the population lives in the 3245  m high city of San Jerónimo . The city of San Jerónimo, with 59,219 inhabitants (as of 2017), is located in the valley of the Río Huatanay and forms the east of the metropolitan area of ​​the provincial and regional capital Cusco .

Geographical location

The district of San Jerónimo is located in the east of the province of Cusco. The Río Huatanay, a left tributary of the Río Urubamba , flows through the district in an east-southeast direction.

The district of San Jerónimo is bordered to the west by the district of San Sebastián , to the northwest by the district of Taray ( province of Calca ), to the northeast by the district of San Salvador (also in the province of Calca), to the east by the district of Saylla , to the southeast by the Districts of Oropesa and Lucre (both in the province of Quispicanchi ) and in the south to the district of Yaurisque ( province of Paruro ).
