The Santiago district is located in the Cusco Province of Cusco region in South Central Peru . The district was established on June 10, 1955. It has an area of 69.72 km². In the 2017 census, 94,756 people lived in the district. In 1993 the population was 73,129, in 2007 it was 83,721. The district administration is located in the 3427 m high city of Santiago with 92,729 inhabitants (as of 2017). Santiago forms the southern part of the metropolitan area of the provincial and regional capital Cusco .
Geographical location
The district of Santiago comprises the southern part of the settlement area in the Cusco Valley as well as the neighboring mountainous region to the south.
The district of Santiago borders in the north with the district of Cusco , in the northeast with the district Wanchaq , in the east with the district San Sebastián , in the northeast with the district Yaurisque , in the south with the district Huanoquite and in the southwest with the district Ccorca .
