The district of Yaurisque is located in the province of Paruro in the region of Cusco in south-central Peru . The district was founded on April 15, 1959. It has an area of ​​101 km². At the 2017 census, there were 2,057 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 3055, in 2007 it was 2605. The district administration is located in the 3328  m high village of Yaurisque with 572 inhabitants (as of 2017). Yaurisque is located 13 km north-northwest of the provincial capital Paruro and 17 km south-southeast of the regional capital Cusco .

Geographical location

The district of Yaurisque is located in the Andean highlands in the northeast of the province of Paruro. The Río Yaurisque drains the area to the southwest to the Río Apurímac .

The district of Yaurisque borders in the west on the district Huanoquite , in the north on the districts Santiago , San Sebastián and San Jerónimo (all three in the province of Cusco ), in the extreme east on the district Lucre ( province Quispicanchi ), in the southeast on the district Paruro and in the southwest to the Paccaritambo district .
