The Colcha district is located in the Paruro Province in the Cusco region in south-central Peru . The district was founded on January 2, 1857. It has an area of 140 km². At the 2017 census, there were 1,018 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 1905, in 2007 it was 1335. The district administration is located in the 2800 m high village of Colcha with 180 inhabitants (as of 2017). Colcha is located on the left bank of the Río Apurímac 11 km south-southeast of the provincial capital Paruro .
Geographical location
The Colcha district is located in the Andean highlands in the central east of the Paruro province. It is bordered to the west by the Río Velille and to the north and east by the Río Apurímac.
The Colcha district borders on the Ccapi district in the west, the Paccaritambo district in the northwest , the Paruro district in the north, the Rondocan and Acos districts in the east (both in the Acomayo province ), the Pillpinto district in the southeast and the south to the Accha district .
