The district of Pillpinto is located in the province of Paruro in the region of Cusco in south-central Peru . The district was established on December 11, 1963. It has an area of 78.4 km². At the 2017 census, there were 1,089 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 1645, in 2007 it was 1325. The district administration is located in the village of Pillpinto, which is about 2866 m high and has 577 inhabitants (as of 2017). Pillpinto is located on the left bank of the Río Apurímac 23 km south-southeast of the provincial capital Paruro .
Geographical location
The district of Pillpinto is located in the Andean highlands in the south-east of the province of Paruro. The Río Apurímac flows along the eastern district boundary in a north-northwest direction.
The Pillpinto district is bordered to the west by the district Accha , in the northwest on the district Colcha , on the east by the district Acos ( province Acomayo ) and in the south by the district Omacha .
