The Omacha district is located in the Paruro province in the Cusco region in south-central Peru . The district was founded on January 2, 1857. It has an area of ​​427 km². At the 2017 census, 5,972 people lived in the district. In 1993 the population was 5531, in 2007 it was 6453. The district administration is located in the village of Omacha, which is about 4260  m high and has 409 inhabitants (as of 2017). Omacha is located 35 km south-southeast of the provincial capital Paruro .

Geographical location

The Omacha district is located in the Andean highlands in the extreme south of the Paruro province. The Río Apurímac and the Río Livitaca limit the district in the east. The Río Velille crosses the west of the district in a northerly direction.

The Omacha district borders in the southeast and southwest on the districts Livitaca and Chamaca (both in the province of Chumbivilcas ), in the west on the districts Colquemarca and Capacmarca (both also in the province of Chumbivilcas), in the north on the districts Accha and Pillpinto as well as in East to Acos and Pomacanchi Districts (both in Acomayo Province ).
