The district of Capacmarca , alternative spelling: District of Ccapacmarca , is located in the province of Chumbivilcas in the Cusco region in south-central Peru . The district founded on January 2, 1857 has an area of ​​267 km². The 2017 census counted 4221 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 4931, in 2007 4593. The district administration is located in the 3565  m high town of Ccapacmarca (or Capacmarca) with 818 inhabitants (as of 2017). Ccapacmarca is 50 km north of the provincial capital Santo Tomás and 55 km south of the regional capital Cusco .

Geographical location

The Capacmarca district is located in the far north of the Chumbivilcas province. It has a length in north-south direction of 23 km and a width of 16 km. The district is located in the Andean highlands . The Río Santo Tomás River flows north along the western district boundary.

The Capacmarca district borders on the Mara district ( Cotabambas province ) to the west, the Ccapi district ( Paruro province ) to the north, the Accha and Omacha districts (both in Paruro province) to the east, and the Colquemarca district to the south .
