The Chamaca district is located in the Chumbivilcas province in the Cusco region in south-central Peru . The district founded on January 2, 1857 has an area of 674 km². The 2017 census counted 6,750 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 6357, in 2007 it was 7698. The district administration is located in the 3754 m high village of Chamaca with 1044 inhabitants (as of 2017). Chamaca is located 30 km northeast of the provincial capital Santo Tomás .
Geographical location
The Chamaca district is located in the west of the Chumbivilcas province. The district is located in the Andean highlands . The Río Velille River crosses the district in a northerly direction.
The Chamaca district is bordered to the west by the district Colquemarca , in the extreme northwest of the district Ccapacmarca , on the north by the district Omacha ( province Paruro ), to the east by the district Livitaca , the south by the district Velille and on the southwest by the district Santo Tomás .
