The Paruro District is located in the Paruro Province in the Cusco region in south-central Peru . The district was established on June 21, 1825. It has an area of ​​153 km². At the 2017 census, 3486 inhabitants lived in the district. In 1993 the population was 4103, in 2007 it was 3512. The district administration is located in the provincial capital Paruro, 3068  m high, with 1943 inhabitants (as of 2017).

Geographical location

The district of Paruro is located in the Andean highlands in the north-east of the province of Paruro. The Río Apurímac flows along the border of the district in the extreme south to the west. The district extends largely over the catchment area of its right tributary Río Paruro.

The Paruro district borders on the Paccaritambo district in the west, the Yaurisque district in the northwest , the Lucre district ( Quispicanchi province ) in the northeast, the Rondocan district ( Acomayo province ) in the southeast and the Colcha district in the extreme south .
