Edgardo Lander (* 1942 in Caracas ) is a Venezuelan sociologist.

Life

Lander obtained his first academic degree in 1964 with a licentiate from the Universidad Central de Venezuela (Caracas). In 1969 he graduated from Harvard University with a Master of Arts degree in sociology. Here he received his Ph.D. with the dissertation topic The Theory of Marginality from a Marxist Perspective .

Lander is now a professor emeritus at the Universidad Central de Venezuela and held a professorship at the Universidad Indígena de Venezuela . He also holds a visiting professorship at the Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar in Quito . In addition, there are close working relationships ( Fellow since 2007) with the Transnational Institute (TNI) in Amsterdam and the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation in Quito.

His main areas of work are:

Lander is a co-founder of the Venezuelan “Civic Platform for the Defense of the Constitution” and a member of the “Alliance for a Consultative Referendum”. These are activities that have developed in connection with the domestic political situation in Venezuela, which has worsened since 2016, and the conflict between Nicolás Maduro and Juan Guaidó as well as the resulting international aftermath.
