Písac or Pisaq is a city and former mountain fortress of the Inca in south-central Peru , which is about 33 kilometers away from Cusco . It is located in the Valle Sagrado ("Sacred Valley of the Inca") on the right bank of the Rio Urubamba . In 2017 Písac had 3718 inhabitants.
The sacred precinct
The city center of Písac consists of two parts. The actual city of Písac is one part, the other is the sacred district. A long staircase leads from the houses to the highest plateau . There, in the middle of the temple area, lies the Intihuatana , a mighty boulder that the Inca believed was tied to the sun.
