The Caicay district is located in the Paucartambo Province in the Cusco region in south-central Peru . The district was established on June 21, 1825. It has an area of ​​107 km². The 2017 census counted 2935 inhabitants. In 1993, the population was 2,398, in 2007 the 2,521th seat of the district administration is at an altitude of 3110  m nearby places Caicay (alternative spelling: Caycay) with 354 inhabitants (2017). Caicay is 33 km south-southwest of the provincial capital Paucartambo .

Geographical location

The Caicay district is located in the southwest of the Paucartambo province. The Río Vilcanota (upper reaches of the Río Urubamba) flows north along the southwestern district boundary. Its right tributary Río Huancaymayo crosses the northwest of the district.

The Caicay district borders in the west on the districts Andahuaylillas , Lucre (both in the province Quispicanchi ) and San Salvador ( province Calca ), in the extreme north on the district Colquepata , in the northeast on the district Huancarani , in the southeast on the districts Ccatca and Urcos (both in the province of Quispicanchi).
