The Huarocondo district is located in the Anta Province in the Cusco region in south-central Peru . The district was founded on November 14, 1896. It has an area of ​​221 km². The 2017 census counted 4865 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 6032, in 2007 it was 5719. The district administration is located in the small town of Huarocondo with 2469 inhabitants at an altitude of 3353  m (as of 2017). Huarocondo is located 8 km northwest of the provincial capital Anta .

Geographical location

The district of Huarocondo is located in the central north of the province of Anta. In the west is the Cordillera Vilcanota with the peaks Moyoc ( 5173  m ) and Huayanay ( 5362  m ). The Río Huarocondo, a tributary of the Río Urubamba , crosses the east of the district in a northerly direction.

The district of Huarocondo borders in the southwest on the districts Zurite , Ancahuasi and Limatambo , in the north on the districts Ollantaytambo and Maras (both in the province of Urubamba ) and in the southeast on the district Anta .
