The Anta district is located in the Anta province of the Cusco region in south-central Peru . The district founded on June 21, 1825 has an area of ​​187 km². At the 2017 census, the district had 21,674 residents. In 1993 the population was 16,737, in 2007 16,336. The district and provincial administration is located in the town of Anta, at an altitude of 3345  m , with 10,182 inhabitants (as of 2017). Anta is located 20 km west-northwest of the regional capital Cusco .

Geographical location

The district of Anta is located in the Andes in the central east of the province of Anta. The area is drained via the Río Huarocondo north to the Río Urubamba .

The Anta district is bordered on the southwest by the district Chinchaypujio , on the west by the districts Zurite and Huarocondo , on the north by the district Maras ( Urubamba Province ), in the northeast on the district Chinchero (also in the province of Urubamba), to the east by the districts Cachimayo and Pucyura and in the southeast to the district of Ccorca ( province of Cusco ).
