The district of Yanaoca is located in the province of Canas in the region of Cusco in south-central Peru . The district was founded on August 29, 1834. It has an area of ​​292.97 km². The 2017 census counted 8,659 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 9923, in 2007 it was 9701. The district administration is located in the small town of Yanaoca with 3307 inhabitants located at an altitude of 3913  m (as of 2017). Yanaoca is located almost 100 km south-southeast of the regional capital, Cusco .

Geographical location

The district of Yanaoca is located in the Andean highlands in the central north of the Canas province. The upper reaches of the Río Apurímac runs in the west of the district and in parts forms the district boundary.

The district of Yanaoca borders in the south and southwest on the district of Quehue , in the west on the district Livitaca ( province Chumbivilcas ), in the northwest on the district Túpac Amaru , in the northeast on the districts Pampamarca and Tinta ( province Canchis ), in the east on the districts San Pablo and Sicuani (both in the province of Canchis) and in the southeast to the district of Langui .
