The Sicuani district is located in the Canchis Province of the Cusco region in south-central Peru . The district was founded on October 14, 1833. It has an area of 646 km². In the 2017 census, 57,827 people lived in the district. In 1993 the population was 51,083, in 2007 it was 55,269. The district administration is located in the provincial capital Sicuani at an altitude of 3500 m with 46,102 inhabitants (as of 2017). Sicuani is located on the Río Vilcanota , the upper reaches of the Río Urubamba , 115 km southeast of the regional capital Cusco . The national road 3S from Cusco to Puno runs through the district and past the city.
Geographical location
The Sicuani district is located in the Andean highlands in the southern part of Canchis Province. The Río Vilcanota crosses the district in a north-northwest direction.
The Sicuani district is bordered by the Marangani district to the south, the Langui district ( Canas province ) to the southwest, the Yanaoca district (also in the Canas province) to the west, the San Pablo district to the north and the Nuñoa district to the east ( Melgar Province ).
