The Langui district is located in the Canas Province in the Cusco region in south-central Peru . The district was founded on August 29, 1834. It has an area of ​​171 km². The 2017 census counted 2104 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 2626, in 2007 it was 2205. The district administration is based in the village of Langui with 372 inhabitants on the northern shore of the Laguna Langui Layo at an altitude of 2969  m (as of 2017). Langui is located just under 30 km south-southeast of the provincial capital Yanaoca .

Geographical location

The Langui district is located in the Andean highlands in the east of the Canas province. The district covers the northwest third of the Laguna Langui Layo lake. Its outflow, the Río Hercca , crosses the district, initially in a north-westerly direction, later in a north-easterly direction.

The Langui district is bordered to the southeast by the Layo district , to the southwest by the Kunturkanki district , to the west by the Checca and Quehue districts , to the northwest by the Yanaoca district and to the north and east by the Sicuani and Marangani districts (both in the province Canchis ).
