Lake Laguna Langui Layo is a lake in the Peruvian Andean highlands , 130 km southeast of the city of Cusco . The provincial capital Sicuani is located about 20 km north of the lake . The lake is believed to be in a rift valley .
The lake is located in the Layo and Langui districts of Canas Province . Layo is on the northeastern shore of the lake, while Langui is on the northwestern end of the lake. The Río Hercca drains the lake at its northwestern end to the Río Vilcanota , the upper reaches of the Río Urubamba . There has been a weir at the drain since 2002 .
The lake is located at an altitude of 3955 m and has an area of 55.3 km². The longitudinal extent in WNW-ESE direction is 15.7 km, the average width 4.3 km.
ecology
Totora reeds grow on the bank . The loach catfish Trichomycterus rivulatus and the Agassiz Andean parrot ( Orestias agassizii ) are found in the lake . The birds at the lake include seagulls and duck birds such as the Andean goose ( Chloephaga melanoptera ).
