The Kunturkanki District is located in the Canas Province in the Cusco Region in south-central Peru . The district was established on January 7, 1961. It has an area of ​​376.19 km². The 2017 census counted 4747 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 3399, in 2007 it was 2965. The district administration is located in the small town of El Descanso with 1,434 inhabitants at an altitude of 3940  m (as of 2017). El Descanso is located 38 km south-southeast of the provincial capital Yanaoca .

Geographical location

The Kunturkanki district is located in the Andean highlands in the central south of the Canas province. In the northeast, the district extends to the shore of the Laguna Langui Layo lake .

The Kunturkanki district is bordered to the west by the district Checca , in the northeast on the district Langui , in the southeast of the district Layo and the south by the district Pichigua ( province of Espinar ).
